Man Mantis

Hadn't heard of this dude until Sole mentioned him during an interview (he's got a couple beats on Sole's forthcoming A Ruthless Criticism of Everything). Definitely worth a listen. He deftly combines layers of samples, synths and big drums.

Sole "Young Sole"

New single from Sole's forthcoming solo project. He's in top form. He's left behind some of the anger and sociological hopelessness of the early 21st century Culture Wars to push the positive growth via revolutionary tactics that's been the global theme in 2012. New single's produced by Factor and it's a beast.

Lee Fields "Faithful Man"

This has been out for a little minute, but I heard it on the radio the other day (shout out to OpenAir 1340) and was blown away. This is some powerful stuff.

Bruce Haack Remixes

Propers to everyone at Stones Throw for these remixes. Bruce Haack is legendary. He pioneered psychedelic lo-fi electronic music, including a bunch of really far-out children's records. Electric Lucifer is pretty brilliant, if you don't already know. So they get together and drop a bunch of re-donculous remixes. Check out the party mix:

Dawn Safari

Digging this. Some real low key smoothness.

Com Truise gets into risky business

Super 80s flavor, like watching blunted and decaying VHS tapes while wearing one of those Nintendo power gloves like Fred Savage rocked. Who let John Carpenter hump Boards of Canada for the denouement?

Come Truise's new joint is dropping on Ghostly later this summer.

Madlib x Freddie Gibbs pt. 2

After blowing hip hop's collective mind with "Thuggin'" last year, Madlib and Freddie Gibbs are collabing again, this time for the Shame EP. Of course it's not a disappointment, Gibbs might be the toughest MC out right now. Or at least neck and neck with KRIT.

Bradbury on Disneyland

In 1965,  Sci-Fi diety Ray Bradbury went to Disneyland and penned this essay on the park, American culture and robots.
Do I make too much of this? Perhaps. Nothing is guaranteed. We are wandering in the childhood of machines. When we and the machines mature, who can say what we might accomplish together?

Open Mike Eagle "Cobra Commander"

This is future rap. West Coaster Open Mike Eagle x Danny Brown; Kenny Segal on the beat. The results are riding, dark, bass-y post-apocalyptic GI Joe-metaphor raps.

yU x Oddisee

Gritty like some old Mobb Deep. He said "frame of mind."

Clean Living and Pure Thoughts

My new EP. Some odds and ends I've been messing with for the last few weeks. Beats and whatnot.

Ryat

I stumbled across Ryat a year or two ago via a free EP. She/They - it was a duo originally, but I now I only see her - joined the ranks of the Brainfeeder crew for the new record, which was out last week. Here's a tune from it.

Ackryte

Digging these beats. He's got an album coming out soon on HW&W.

A.Poco.Lips & Sean Geisthardt

Nice collabo between beatsmith A.Poco.Lips and guitarist/producer Sean Geisthardt (Tulip Wars, Goer). Smooth listening for the summer evenings.

Oddisee "Way In Way Out"

Oddisee's new record is out this week, and to celebrate he's giving you this hot lil number called "Way In Way Out."

Nigerian Hip Hop 1981-1991

This is a pretty incredible audio document - a mixtape representing the first ten years of Nigerian hip hop. It's amazing to think that the art form was barely recognized in America in '81, but was already being pursued across the ocean. Follow the OkayAfrica link for tracklist + more info.

Endeavorz

Another great release from Denver's Dirty//Clean Records. Some great bass music that really digs into a lot of different veins at once - the opening tune, "I'z Flown" touches on dub, ghetto-tech and glitch before crunching itself into oblivion.
