"E.T. Rode Chrome"

Like a G-Funk-era re-interpretation of the Neptunes playing Sega Genesis. On weed

Dustprints

The new Snubluck album on Pragmatic Theory is crazy.

Kratos Himself

This has some David Axelrod meets Cinematic Orchestra qualities to it. I'm digging it.

Mr. Porter

I remember some joints he did for Busta Rhymes a couple years ago that had me floored. This is just some smooth solo production.

"Living Check to Check"

Heard Wordsmith drop this at the Savannah Urban Arts Festival in April and then didn't know where to find it. Then it arrived in my inbox the other day. Nice. Love the Darondo sample paired with the working class blues raps. This is in the rotation for summer. No expletives.

Grab the DJ pack with the original + instrumental and acapella.

"Where You Been?"

That new A.Dd+ is crazy fire. Burn One on the beat. Summer vibin' serious. That Outkast feel.

"All It Takes"

Def Dee has a new album blending originals, remixes and various other snippets from the Mello Music back catalog. This free taste is super fresh.

Astro Nautico dreams of vinyl

This rising Brooklyn-based label specializes in atmospheric electronic sounds spanning the possibilities of tempo and style. Regular readers might recognize their name from a few posts here about their nicely curated compilations featuring all sorts of quality producers (Obey City, Kuhn, etc.). Now they want to transcend from digital to physical, and are asking for support. If you've ever jammed one of their tracks, pony up a couple bucks.

"Dirty Talkin'"

Oh so smooth... This track is off of a nice UK comp, but keep an eye out for imprintafter's new album on Shoeboxx Recordings this fall.

"Something Awful"

New video for the opening joint off Knife's recent LP Black Male. Nasty with it.

Safety Scissors

I recently enjoyed this album while driving across the plains of South Dakota. It would also be appropriate to listen to in urban areas. Either way, really.

Castle

"Rotten Sushi" reminds of how I felt the first time I heard Aesop Rock and Blockhead's early 2000s collabos. This is just dusty and ill.

Kaw

I don't know if there's less of it than there used to be, or if I'm just not hearing it as much, but I miss scratching over beats (when done with taste and skill). Kaw's whole album is descended from the raw minimalist slap of TNGHT.

"Get'em'High"

This smoothness goes out to Denver.

"Scattered Ashes"

Sonnymoon remixes Busdriver into a slow-building explosion of ghostly, analog arpeggiations and ethereal yet plaintive vocals.

If you buy things on iTunes...

Singles

KidSyc is that guy. He's been rocking with the live band Brandywine for the last few years, but he mixes it up with this new project and just drops some solo material. Something different for the summer. The album is designed to be played on the drive downtown Savannah out to the beach at Tybee. Proper.

Run the Jewels

The leaks off this El-P x Killer Mike album just keep getting better. I wish more cats swapped bars like this. Vet move. You don't always have to do 16 and a hook.

Earl Juice EP

I was a big fan of Real Cosby's last EP, so I've been curious to hear how he'd follow it up. Needless to say, the results speak for themselves.

In the often cold and impersonal sonic environments of electronic music, his work has a level of humanism, something compassion-invoking, that truly makes it stand out from the field. His sense of arrangement is finely tuned, as is his sense of rhythm. The EP is the debut release from Denver's Shoeboxx Recordings

Ape Tit

"Lightning Sushine" is like affluent, golden-era, deep-jazz downtempo. It's light rain at night causing ripples in a puddle under a streetlight. It's the soundtrack for contemplatively staring out a window into the middle distance. Then "Blasting" comes on and the whole style flips. And flips. And flips. Serious vibes. It's too bad you border on an FCC violation if say his name on the radio.
