The call for entries to artists is open through early March, so if you're down in the Southeast and looking to come kick it and do your thing, here's a chance. If you're an artist interested in taking some old records and turning them into art, now is the time...For The Record will debut at Studio 2-Ten in Feb. 2011 and feature recycled art made from records and a bunch of all-vinyl DJ sets from some of the Vinyl Appreciation crew, among others.The deadline for record pick up runs through mid-January, so if you're interested, email thebrainchild(at)mac(dot)com for more info.

It's that time again. Savannah's DJs and record collectors will gather to play their favorite selections on wax. It goes down August 29, 5-10pm at Muse Arts Warehouse (703d Louisville Rd.) Psychedelia, soul, funk, jazz, new wave, country, classical, garage, electro, hip hop - so long as it's analog it's all good.

In honor of Mother's Day, we'll be kicking off the evening with selections from some vinyl appreciating ladies, which will be followed by a mish mash of regulars and a couple new faces as well. As always, the music will be eclectic to say the least. Last time we touched on everything from obscure NC post punk from the early 80s right up through glitch and dubstep, with pit stops for funk, soul, hip hop, traditional Japanese koto records and a few books on record...This Sunday (5/30), from 5-10pm at Indigo Arts (703d Louisville Rd - 1 block west of MLK and Liberty).

The inaugural V.A.N. was last month, and it was super cool - by far the best way to spend a laidback Sunday evening. If you don't know, the basic premise is to invite a bunch of DJs and record collectors to get together and play their favorite deep cuts for an equally cool audience. There's also some video art, some buy/sell/trade record action, and plenty of serious chilling. The next one will be April 25 at Indigo Arts (703D Louisville Rd. Savannah, GA) - it will be the closing event of the 2nd Annual Savannah Urban Arts Festival.
Vinyl Appreciation Night
We got the first one on the books - a laidback Sunday evening affair where local DJs and record collectors air out their favorite tracks. Many thanks to everyone who came out, to all the DJs, and an even bigger thanks to Indigo Arts Center for hosting. There some audio recordings of the evening that I will try to get around to posting asap. Lots of good jams were played. The next one will be April 25, so mark your calendars.

Vinyl Appreciation - 3/28, Indigo Arts Center
I'm rounding up a bunch of Savannah's coolest DJs to host an early evening session where we play all the awesome records that we never get to play at bars or parties because of the audience demands. Bring your sweater because it'll be cool. Deep cuts. Excellent selectors spanning genres and styles. Come hang out. Take it easy on a Sunday evening and check out some music you might not know.
It all goes March 28, 5pm at the Indigo Arts Center (703D Louisville Rd, Savannah GA). $3 at the door, with all proceeds benefitting the space (which is a non-profit dedicated to keeping a low-cost performance space open) and the Savannah Urban Arts Festival, which runs April 18-25, and will be chainless. SUAF still has a few days left for artist submissions, so if you're in the southeast and you make music, art, film/video or whatever, go to the website and fill out an application.
