NYIB/Outlet April Fool's Party

No joke, the one year anniversary of New York is Boring (which I only recently realized was a Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (movie version) reference) as well as the release party for Outlet's Literary Issue is tomorrow night at the Wormhole. Performances by Today the Moon, Tomorrow the Sun; Winter Sounds; and Magic Places...Here's the promo...

Hula Hoop

This is actually the inventor of the hula hoop, not the band.

Hula Hoop was formed in Savannah about 2 years ago, if my memory serves. Although it took me a few shows before I actually got to see them, the guys were immediately embraced downtown, generated serious buzz and totally lived up to the hype once I finally did see them. Samuel Cooper (who recently struck the blogosphere as half of Sunglasses) was working on Hula Hoop a little earlier with comrade-in-jams Marshall Trotter and the result was fun.
Hula Hoop got a nice shout out in Nylon's "Good Listener" section, featuring the mag's five fav songs of the week.
The song of merit is "Ladies (Let's Go)" which also recently appeared on the Outlet Magazine music issue compilation.

Outlet Magazine's Music Issue

This upstart publication celebrating Savannah's creative side just released its third issue with a lovely party over at the Co-Lab. It's the music issue, so, in addition to having a magazine chock full of cool art, there was also a 30 track music compilation featuring an interesting selection of local bands, ranging from downtown regulars to bedroom musicians. The comp was accompanied by a lovely booklet (separate from the actual magazine), where each song was given to a local artist who interpreted it visually.

Here was a song I wasn't familiar with until I heard the mixtape. Now, I am enjoying it very much.

Outlet Launch Party

Dec. 17 at 8:30 p.m. swing by Hangfire to check out the launch of a new quarterly art publication called Outlet documenting some of the awesome things going on in and around Savannah's art scene. I've only seen pieces of it so far,  but it looks amazing, and it must be good because they had the good sense to include a piece of mine, a digital collage from my series called "Snapshots" in their inaugural issue. The first issue is limited edition and selling for $3.50 - a very reasonable price for the awesomeness that you will receive. Go be a fan of on Facebook.
