If you like your raps hard and your beats dark, then spend some time with Knife's newest. Fans of comic books, mom insults, weed and R.A. The Rugged Man records will definitely be down with this. Anyone who's ever talked shit about a girl they broke up with, or thought that pop culture is dismantling any remaining strand of decency we have left as a civilization, will definitely want this in their headphones. For those familiar with his previous LP, 2000 Yard Stare, you'll find an MC who's more focused and more concise than ever, some amazing punchlines, brutal honesty and pounding beats.

IMakeMadBeats x Butta Verses
Some more of the other south right here. First heard about IMakeMadBeats when he came through Savannah a few years ago. Did the beat for what became Dope Sandwich's "Oh Lordy" - he's been out and about with Roc C and a bunch of other folks. Here he joins forces with Butta Verses from down around Florida.

He just compiled this little collection of hits, misses and gems in preparation for some new solo stuff that should be chainless considering the bits and pieces I've heard so far. His last album got some love from OkayPlayer.

This man Basik Lee decided that breaking and rapping just weren't enough and started messing with some decks. You can definitely catch him spinning at a few spots around Savannah with Valis and the rest of the Dope Sandwich Crew - Bacchus, Hang Fire, etc - and of course, you can always catch him hosting hip hop night at the Jinx every Tuesday.
Anyway, while tipping back a margarita in honor of Mexican Independence earlier, he casually unleashed this mix, the first in a series that he's planning to turn out over the summer.
In the moment, I think I described it as something that would fit perfectly for a slightly hung over ride out to the beach. It opens smooth with some Lauryn Hill and then rolls through a bunch more stuff I hadn't heard in too long, nothing too fancy on the technique, but some nice mixes and plenty of hip hop gems.

Knife gets props from OkayPlayer
This man Knife is part of Savannah's Dope Sandwich crew and part their new group project, the Union of Scared Monsters. His solo project The 2000 Yard Stare just got a real nice review from Okayplayer, and scored 5 points higher than the new Little Brother album. Knife has paid dues and put in work. He's a skilled MC. You may or may not like his music (depending on your taste) because there's not a hint of pop on it, and it's dark - but you can't question his lyrical abilities.
He ripped it up at the Hip Hop Hell Freestyle Massacre last year.
