A3C's RV Mixtape

Parked in the front of the Masquerade during this year's A3C festival was a large RV - not a strange sight at a festival if you're seeing some jam bands, but at a hip hop festival, it sort of stuck out - what also drew attention to the vehicle was the steady stream of artists coming and going from it. It was a mobile studio, among other things, and this mixtape is some of the results.

G.R.E.A.T. SCOTT @ A3C

First met G.R.E.A.T. SCOTT last spring when he came down for the Savannah Urban Arts Festival. He stayed in Savannah for a few years way back in the day. Maf told me he was an inspiration to him to step up his craft, so I wasn't surprised when he rocked the stage.
He had a short set during A3C (times were getting cut for a bunch of people - it's almost impossible to get showcases back on schedule), however, he made the most of it. This was his opening track. He's got an album in the works, and I bet it'll be crazy.

Just got back from A3C

Spent the weekend in Atlanta for A3C. Good times. Camp Lo performed Saturday night and killed it. They also announced that they're working on a project together with Pete Rock that's going to be called 80 Blocks from Tiffany's. Not sure whether that's directly related to the release of the documentary or not...Rhymefest closed out Saturday night with an inspired performance. Besides pulling a kid out of the crowd to do Kanye's verse on "Brand New", he kicked a super tight freestyle that played off some crowd interaction (camera poses and kissing somebody's aunt in the first row) and a great punchline about Eddie Long. The most interesting part of his set came when he stopped and talked for a few minutes about how he's running for city council in the district where he grew up and why people need to become directly involved in improving their communities (a theme near and dear to my own heart.) Homeboy Sandman and Tanya Morgan also killed sets. Brittany Bosco was amazing. Reks was dope.
I'm also happy to report that there are a lot of interesting young artists out there who bringing some really fresh things in the next couple years.
I came home with a gang of CDs, videos, pics and web links, so as I get a chance to sift through it all, I'll post some of the best finds.

A3C Mixtape

If you like hip hop and you live in the Southeast, there's a good chance you're considering a trip to Atlanta next week for A3C. These guys put in work and its paid off. I remember a few years ago seeing fliers and stuff for this, and while there were some hot underground heads, it didn't have nearly the clout it's got now. Still plenty of underground heads, but on a way bigger scale. 200+ artists from Oct. 6-8. A handful are on the first installment of the A3C Mixtape presented by production/management team SMKA.
