"Sleepsafe"

New tune from Long Arm is a slow burn, but so worth the wait. Transcendent, really.

Good Paul

Sweet post-dubstep brah! Just kidding, at least about the "brah" part. Project Mooncircle has a proven track record of putting out exceptional electronic music. Intelligent and accessible. This EP by Good Paul is further proof.

Robot Koch "The Other Side"

The new LP from Berlin's Robot Koch arrived a few weeks ago, and I've spent some time riding around listening to it in the car (driving alone, imho, is one of the best places/times to pass judgment on music). This album is definitely worth checking out, if you're looking one of the smoothest and most listenable bass/beats/post-dubstep albums available right now. Check it out here.

Koch shows off his dexterity by pulling together tracks that offer a little something for everyone, opening with slower post-rock crooning before moving into the realm of glitchy, boss-wobbling beats. His tracks also manage an expressiveness that is lacking from some of the recent flood of young beatsmiths. In an age when technology is allowing quantity to surpass quality in the ears of some fans, Koch maintains an edge in the fantastic texture he provides his sounds.

DZA

A Russian beat maker and Red Bull Music Academy participant named DZA is getting a lot of buzz right now, and it's well deserved. Here's a dope sampler for his upcoming EP, titled Supershark. It's out June 3. Expect plenty of blips, bleeps, bloops and bass galore. Get more info on the release here.

You can also check out his tape (an actual physical tape, not a figure of speech) of remixes.

fLako's new album

I like this guy a lot. Just solid, cerebral beats that understand tradition but aren't afraid to bend the rules in the name of innovation. He's got a new album on it's way called Mesektet (an ancient Egypt reference you can read more about here). Check a snippet off the upcoming project:

Go back and listen to his first release, Mini Tollbooth, too.

My favorite album right now

The Branches

This Project Mooncircle release Long Arm's The Branches is definitely my favorite thing to listen to right now. Beautifully textured beats that run from experimental hip hop to jungle-tempered IDM. Lots of rich, emotive piano samples. Definitely worth grabbing a copy here. Check out this page for more info and a free track download. Bookmark and Share

The Branches

It's rainy and cold here in the South and I am feeling this - whether you're braving the elements or warming up by the fire this will track by Long Arm will get you right.

fLako

Some wonderfully crunchy material from fLako. His Mini Tollbooth LP drops Dec. 17 on Project Moon Circle, and is inspired by one of my favorite children's books of all time The Phantom Tollbooth. Using that as inspiration alone would have been enough for a shout out from me, but the fact that his sound is nice doesn't hurt. Just in time to pull the headphones tight and let 'em double as ear muffs if you're stuck in a northern climate. Robot Koch makes beats

Berlin's Robot Koch is one of my favorite wonky, dubstep-meets-hip-hop type producers out in the big wide world right now. He's forward thinking, and yet pays an homage to the minimalism of Berlin. He's like the Tresor basement. I also think it's nice that he doesn't live in LA, which has begun to absorb all the forward-thinking beat smiths like a  sponge as all these youngins make pilgrimages to Low End Theory or to search out Flying Lotus so they can ask about what kind of gear he uses... I think geographical diversity is an under-appreciated aspect of production. It expands the stylistic gene pool. Anyway... R.Koch is dropping a new record, Songs for Trees and Cyborgs, on Project Mooncircle soon and here's a track they'd like to share with you in honor of that.
