Tasty Morsels Volume 1

The first installment in a new series featuring great sets from Vinyl Appreciation Night, the monthly listening party at the Muse Arts Warehouse in Savannah.

Volume 1 includes two vinyl-only sets from a pair of 2010 events, and might be enjoyed by fans of Vanilla Fudge, Sly Stone, Mulatu Astatke and such.

Vinyl Appreciation

The next Vinyl Appreciation is Sunday, June 26 at Muse Arts Warehouse. It's the monthly celebration of musical curation featuring lost gems, deep grooves, strange musical brews all preserved for as long as they continue to exist on flat discs. Donations at the door help keep the lights on. Hard chill and enjoy.

Vinyl Appreciation turns one year old this Sunday at Muse Arts Warehouse (703 D Louisville Rd. SAV). 5-10 p.m.

DJs and record collectors playing strange and wonderful analog recordings. Bring a friend. Bring some records. Or just come and hang out. Whatever. $3 at the door. There's nothing cooler you can be doing on a Sunday evening.

FTR Winner

At last weekend's "For the Record" show, which featured a recycled record art show plus vinyl-only DJ sets, this guy showed up with his own record-related fashion, a spiked gauntlet and a tie. He wasn't even in the show, he just had some records and decided to come through. Nice work.

Vinyl Appreciation will celebrate it's one year anniversary in April as the closing night of the Savannah Urban Arts Festival - 8 days of film, music, dance, poetry, art and more. The call for entries to artists is open through early March, so if you're down in the Southeast and looking to come kick it and do your thing, here's a chance. For the Record

 The closing reception on Feb. 12, 8-10pm at Studio 2-Ten (210 W. Victory Dr.) will feature DJ sets from some Vinyl Appreciation regulars. The show includes work from 20 different artists using old records as their source material. The show will be pretty awesome. The opening reception is Feb. 8 from 6-8pm as in hosted by Green Drinks and Cspot.
 Shouts out to Raabstract, Connect Savannah, Club One and everyone else who's put work into making this happen.

For the Record

If you're an artist interested in taking some old records and turning them into art, now is the time...For The Record will debut at Studio 2-Ten in Feb. 2011 and feature recycled art made from records and a bunch of all-vinyl DJ sets from some of the Vinyl Appreciation crew, among others.The deadline for record pick up runs through mid-January, so if you're interested, email thebrainchild(at)mac(dot)com for more info.

Tom Van de Ven set (8/29/10)

Tom spun this quick set at Vinyl Appreciation in August. I finally got around to uploading it, and I'm glad I did, because it's awesome. Great selection of hard to find electronic and industrial tunes. The opening song is a live cut from Yello, who is most well-known in pop culture ranks as the group who did that song in Ferris Bueller's Day Off - the song that goes "mmmowh mmmowh chikachikaah" aka "Oh Yeah" - if you're ever in Hang Fire ask Wes to tell you the story about when he worked at a record store around the time that record hit the billboard charts and people would call asking for it.

It's that time again. This Sunday, Sept. 26, 5-10pm at Muse Arts Warehouse.The coolest, weirdest listening party you ever heard. DJs, record collectors, aficionados, etc. Live screen printing from Wabco Industries, giveaways from Primary Arts and Civvies, visual treats from the Psychotronic Film Society. Buy/Sell/Trade records.

Far Out, Man

Here's a quick DJ set of mine I finally got around to posting. It was a soundcheck in May. No one was there but me, but the results were pretty cool. Lots of psychedelic and some nice breaks toward the end.
