First heard this via Diplo's incredible AEIOU mix a number of years ago (that's right kids, he spun soul/psych mixes long before anyone was #ExpressYourselfing). My wife stumbled across this tune recently after a long search. Awesome. Cruise-psych.

These guys are from ATL/Carrolton/Macon and are posted up in Savannah all weekend. Last night they played LiveWire with KidSyc@Brandywine and Aux Arc. Tonight they snuck onto a tight bill at Hang Fire with Cusses and The Shaniqua Brown, and tomorrow, they will play at the Bean for the opening of the Savannah Urban Arts Festival. Find them at one of those events.
They are hard to pin down stylistically. Someone from Cusses described them as Fishbone with out the horns, which is solid. It makes me want to jump around a lot. Not a lot of music does that any more.  I'm gonna be jamming this all summer like a teeny bopper.

Stopover Sessions #1

Local rockers Cusses came out to Meddin last week to record the first-ever Savannah Stopover Session - it was supposed to be a dry run, but Cusses was so awesome that these couldn't stay hidden for long. Normally, thrashy and raucous, this was the last song of the evening, and in honor of the first Stopover Session, also the first time Cusses had done an acoustic number.

Paul A. Rosales is on some throwback sh*t

This L.A. based musician Paul A. Rosales has gone and created one of the most uncannily authentic lo-fi early 80s pop-rock jams I've heard. It's recorded straight to tape and has that "my friend did this with his boom box and a microphone" feel - the only difference is that Rosales is awesome, whereas your friend who tried to do this, unless he or she were equally awesome, probably sounded terrible.

Kid Koala and the Slew

I posted something about Kid Koala and Wolfmother's rhythm section collaborating on some crazy psych/hip hop fusion that they are taking on a little tour this fall. Well, apparently, right now you can download the whole album for free off his website, so you should most definitely do that before he changes his mind and makes you pay him money for this 40 minutes of awesomeness.

I don't know where these two met, but I'm willing to bet there was a plate of drugs involved.

There's elements of this I really like. Singing into a phone? Check. Jamming on a roof? Check. Screaming "fuck the cops?" Still cool.

What kind of bothers me is the mix. Now, Japanther has one of the most excellent band names going, and they've been on the lower-than-lo-fi tip since forever, as far as I know. But I feel like this song would benefit from just a little less drums in the mix, and a dash more keys/guitar. I know it's not cool to care a lot, but fellas, don't sell yourself short here.
