Black Milk x A K U A

Oh my goodness. A favorite producer/MC from Detroit makes serious magic with a sweet crooning vocalist for something between perfectly melds golden era jazz and future soul-hop.

Bonobo

Bonobo's back with his first new album in 3 years. The sound fits his paradigm (laidback, intelligent), but the aesthetic has gotten a definite update. Much less jazz-heavy trip hop and much more of an IDM vibe.

"Rugged"

New video from DC's Uptown XO lives up to its name.

Hot vs. Dope

J-Live's new mixtape is worth your time.

BMSR

New single from the forthcoming Cobra Juicy. Space kraut zip guns set to glam.

Del x Fela

Chop up some Fela Kuti samples and top it off with some Del. That's a recipe for a nice mixtape. Some new stuff from Sir DZL. It's amazing how prolific he's been over the past couple years.

A.Dd+ "Can't You See"

Another slick joint from the Texas duo. They just released 9 non-album cuts in the form of a digital comp called Loosies.

First Serve

Most days, I don't wake up expecting to hear that members of De La Soul are collaborating with some french producers on a concept album, but lo and behold, that day has come. The project is known as First Serve, and the first musical taste is sweet.
De La Soul's Plug 1 & Plug 2 present First Serve - Pushin' Aside, Pushin' Along by FIRST SERVE

I heard about it via Egotripland, so go check them out for the full story, plus a really bizarre video starring Plugs One and Two.

AM & Shawn Lee

It's like gritty Postal Service. There's the ethereal, fragile male lead punctuating an analog low end and a steady beat. I dig it. This is playing at a moderate volume in lounges at 11 p.m. and then again at wind-down after-parties whose attendees are still capable of conversation.

This duo is opening for Thievery Corporation on the west coast in September, and then "co-headlining" with Fool's Gold on the east coast.

Jonti

Some super mellow, sorta-psych-y // sorta-electronic-trip-hop type of thing from Jonti, who will have something out on Stones Throw shortly. Get info on that here. Download the song here.

Pujol

No longer is Pujol just a misspelling of one of the greatest baseball players to wear a St. Louis Cardinals jersey. This young Nashvillian named Pujol is responsible for this Jack White produced jam that owes a stylistic nod to the charms of the Damned. Check it out here (and download it if you like it) via Spin.
